Jay approves $52,188 boiler for wastewater facility
The Jay Select Board approved $52,188.07 from a joint capital reserve account to install a new propane-fired condensing boiler at the Livermore Falls wastewater treatment facility. The project will replace an oil-fired system that averaged about 5,000 gallons of heating oil per season. Superintendent Mark L. Holt presented the request Sept. 28, noting that both Livermore Falls and Jay must approve the spending under an interlocal wastewater treatment agreement; Livermore Falls signed off Sept. 15. The boiler was selected through sealed bidding among ABT of Wilton, Central Maine Plumbing & Heating of Livermore, and A. Maurais & Son of Jay. Holt said fuel savings could total about $6,000 annually versus a cast-iron propane boiler, and the new unit should last 25 years or more, with delivery expected in 2–3 weeks.
