Jerry Sandusky to appear remotely for hearing on accuser recanting allegations of sexual abuse

Jerry Sandusky is scheduled to appear remotely Tuesday for a hearing tied to a claim that an accuser will recant allegations of sexual abuse. The appearance comes as part of Sandusky’s ongoing effort to secure a new trial. Sandusky, 82, has been serving a decades-long prison sentence since his 2012 conviction on 45 counts of sexual abuse after eight young men testified. The Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General said the alleged recantation is “highly suspect.” The accuser, identified in court documents as R.R., says authorities coached him extensively and that he could “safely affirm” details he did not fully recall, according to an affidavit filed by Sandusky’s attorneys. Defense attorneys argued the allegations were influenced by suggestive questioning, coercion and memory manipulation.
