Madonna, Shakira and Ted Lasso appear in first World Cup half-time show

Madonna, Shakira and Ted Lasso characters headlined the first World Cup halftime show featuring a global lineup at MetLife Stadium in New York/New Jersey, delivering an 11-minute spectacle that extended the break to about 27 minutes. The performance included Justin Bieber and Burna Boy, alongside the K-pop group BTS and appearances from Muppets characters Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy. Madonna opened in a warehouse-style setting and later exited to join Brazilian football icons Ronaldinho and Ronaldo. BTS performed “Dynamite” and Jason Sudeikis appeared as Ted Lasso, bringing out Bieber for an acoustic rendition of “Everything Hallelujah,” adjusted for World Cup-themed lyrics. Shakira performed “Dai Dai” with Burna Boy, while Coldplay frontman Chris Martin curated and appeared among the crowd. The show supported the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund, and the organizers staged it alongside major closing-ceremony celebrity performances before kickoff.
