MapQuest just found a route to No. 1 on the App Store

MapQuest has vaulted to No. 1 among free apps on Apple’s App Store in both the U.S. and Canada after refusing to rename Lake Ontario to “Lake America.” The spike follows an Aug. 27 executive order by President Donald Trump directing federal agencies to make the change within 30 days, tied to a broader dispute with Canada over trade. MapQuest said on X “We’re not changing it,” and Appfigures data shows about 80,000 iOS downloads on Sunday versus roughly 500 a day earlier in August. Google Play rose to about 20,000 downloads Saturday. MapQuest also reported usage up around 50-fold.
