Meet the air traffic controller who flies himself to work
xCruzo Brief
In Pueblo, Colorado, 28-year-old air traffic controller Jake Hutzler turns his once-a-week commute into a flight. He straps on a propeller-driven paramotor, lays out the wing, starts the motor and lifts off outside his apartment complex. For about 20 minutes, he flies roughly 35 mph (56 kph) over fields, a highway and a water tower before reaching the airport, calling the tower for landing clearance on the ramp. He then lands, jogs to a stop, packs up the wing and starts his shift coordinating takeoffs and landings. He says he stays off radar due to his small size and relies on updates to avoid surprises.
