Microsoft, Nvidia push AI agents onto personal computers
Microsoft and Nvidia are pushing AI agents onto personal computers, using local execution and new containment tools to limit access to data. At an event in San Francisco, Microsoft announced Microsoft Execution Containers, designed to stop agents from accessing data or performing unauthorized actions on Windows laptops and desktops. Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella said the goal is to keep the desktop the most secure place for agents to run, while executives said IT departments would be able to set rules that Windows enforces per employee device. The companies also introduced a new Surface Laptop Ultra powered by Nvidia chips and referenced Nvidia’s RTX Spark approach. Microsoft’s plan targets a shift from costly Azure cloud workloads, while analysts say pricing will be a key challenge, especially after recent memory-chip cost pressures.
