Miss the blood moon total lunar eclipse? Here's when the next one happens

After the Aug. 28 lunar eclipse—also described as a “blood moon”—the next lunar eclipse is scheduled for the night of Feb. 20, 2027, according to NASA. This will be a penumbral eclipse, meaning the moon passes through Earth’s outer shadow and won’t darken as dramatically as in a total eclipse. The event is expected to be visible across the Americas, Europe, Africa, Asia, Australia and Antarctica. Lunar eclipses occur when Earth moves between the sun and the moon, and the moon can take on reddish or brownish-red tones as sunlight filters through Earth’s atmosphere. Solar eclipses are different events involving the moon blocking sunlight.
