NASA's newest space telescope launches on a quest to explore the hidden universe

NASA’s Roman Space Telescope launched Sunday on a SpaceX Falcon Heavy rocket, a $4.3 billion mission designed to probe the “hidden universe.” Lift-off from Kennedy Space Center sent the bus-sized telescope toward an observation point about 1 million miles (1.6 million kilometers) away, home to the Webb Space Telescope. Roman will take more than three months to arrive. Once operational, NASA expects it to deliver the widest view yet from space, including thousands of supernovae, tens of thousands of exoplanets, billions of galaxies and tens of billions of stars, NASA science mission director Nicky Fox said. Roman’s field of view is more than 100 times wider than Hubble’s.
