New microchip scanning stations open in Cherokee County

Cherokee County has opened new microchip scanning stations designed to speed up reuniting lost pets with their owners. The stations opened Friday at three locations in Cherokee County: the Animal Shelter Intake Building in Canton, Cherokee Veterans Park at 7345 Cumming Hwy. in Canton, and Patriots Park at 1485 Kellogg Creek Rd. in Woodstock. Each station includes signage explaining how to use it and what to do if a microchip is found—or if none is detected. Two years ago, animal control officers Nichalas Liddle and Meghan Davis proposed the idea to reduce stray intakes while handling an average of more than 800 calls a year.
