New York man indicted for allegedly cyberstalking Georgia college student

A New York man has been indicted on one count of cyberstalking for allegedly harassing a Georgia college student between January and March 2025. Authorities say Anthony Belford, 21, created fake social media and email accounts to intimidate the student and to disseminate AI-generated nude images. Prosecutors allege he used these accounts to spread distress and to impersonate the victim online, amplifying harassment across platforms. Belford is accused of making the victim appear racist by posing as them on the fake accounts and sending racist and derogatory messages to student groups. He also allegedly used spoofed accounts on an online forum to drive people to the false information he disseminated, boosting the reach of his campaign. A federal grand jury indicted him on June 3, and he appeared in federal court on June 10 in the Northern District of Georgia. Prosecutors did not name the college involved. The case underscores federal enforcement against cyberstalking and the use of artificial content to harass victims. It illustrates how digital impersonation and AI-generated material can be part of criminal schemes and is being pursued by authorities in Georgia.
