Trump plans to appeal order allowing all U.S. companies that paid illegal tariffs to seek refunds

The Trump administration said it will appeal a federal judge's order that would let all U.S. importers who paid the challenged tariffs seek refunds, not just those who filed lawsuits. The CBP refund program has been processing claims since mid-May, with about $85 billion requested out of an estimated $166 billion owed. As of May 22, the agency reported about $20.6 billion in refunds directed to the Treasury for payment. Judge Richard Eaton scheduled a June 9 hearing to compel faster repayment and pressed for testimony from CBP Commissioner Rodney Scott, while the administration argued Scott may not be compelled to testify. In the meantime, 330,000 importers could be eligible.
