North Korea denies $6bn Binance hack

North Korea denied involvement in the $6.3 billion theft from Binance, calling US claims “grave political provocation” and “absurd rhetoric.” Kim Yo Jong, sister of Kim Jong Un, said the US was trying to spread “misunderstanding” by linking Pyongyang to cyber crimes whenever they occur internationally. US investigators and cyber analysts have previously said North Korea orchestrated the hack. The incident comes shortly before US President Donald Trump and Kim could meet at the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation summit in China. Binance said hackers compromised an engineer’s laptop around 8pm Thursday, enabling unauthorized withdrawals, and TRM Labs estimates most funds were stolen within 20 minutes.
