A North West man keeps a local tradition alive by selling fish and chips from his living room, turning a modest terraced house into a beloved takeaway. Robbins J Chippy operates at 95 Gordon Street in Leigh, Greater Manchester (WN7 1RU) and has traded as a family-run shop since 1893. The current operator, John Robbins, took over in 1987 at age 23 and still stands behind the counter, with his mother living next door, sharing a line. Inside, the front living room preserves its 1970s decor, with wood-panelled walls, retro pegboard menus, and flyers that celebrate the shop’s long history. Locals call it Gordon St. Chippy, and a Liverpool FC allegiance is evident on the walls, underscoring the shop’s local character.
