NTU exchange student from US jailed for stalking teens and hiring hacker to breach their Telegram
NTU exchange student from US jailed for stalking teens and hiring hacker to breach their Telegram describes a Singapore sentencing over a multi-year harassment and hacking case. Kevin Gao, a 23-year-old U.S. exchange student at Nanyang Technological University, received a 20-week jail term on June 19 after being found responsible for stalking three 17-year-old girls and paying a hacker to access their Telegram accounts. Prosecutors said he befriended the girls online via Discord and Roblox, met some in 2020, and continued contact until at least 2024, when he repeatedly showed up at one girl’s home after she cut him off. He allegedly paid “Wracker,” sending thousands of dollars in Bitcoin, used a phishing link against one target, and extracted private chats for a public Telegram channel. Police searched his home in October 2024 and arrested him in February 2025. The court also considered mental-health reports and held him responsible for harms to all three.
