Nvidia is investing $3.5 billion in MediaTek, deepening collaboration with the Taiwanese chipmaker as it works to keep more companies building products that integrate into Nvidia’s data center platform. Nvidia will buy bonds convertible into MediaTek shares, the companies said in a joint statement on Monday. The deal expands an existing partnership by having MediaTek use Nvidia’s NVLink Fusion and the newly announced NVHBM technology as part of an Nvidia suite to improve component communication in data centers. MediaTek is also positioning itself to challenge Broadcom and Marvell by helping data-center owners build their own components. The agreement follows Amazon’s plan to deploy an additional 2 million Nvidia components.
