Obituary: Samuel Serappa Sr.
Samuel Serappa Sr., 87, died peacefully on Sept. 17, 2026. Born in Portland, Maine on April 4, 1939, he graduated from Portland High School in 1957 as a Brown medal recipient. He then enlisted in the U.S. Marines, serving until 1961, and married his high school sweetheart, Ruth “Mickey” Winn, on July 18, 1959. After leaving the Marines, he joined the Portland Fire Department, rising through the ranks and becoming Deputy Fire Chief at Bramhall Station in 1978. He retired in 1982 after 20 years. In later years he traveled with his wife, volunteered at the Life Center in Estero, Florida, and enjoyed fishing and boating. A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for Sept. 26 at 10 a.m. at St. Peter’s Church in Portland, with interment at New Calvary Cemetery in South Portland and USMC Honors.
