In an expedited discovery motion filed Monday, Aug. 31, Apple said it analyzed a MacBook used by OpenAI technical staffer Chang Liu—an ex-Apple employee—after he left. Apple claims Liu downloaded a “confidential Apple circuit schematic” and later, after Apple opened an internal investigation, sent instructions to destroy evidence to an OpenAI colleague who agreed. OpenAI counters that the lawsuit is meritless and aimed at hampering hiring and competing tech, the Wall Street Journal reported. The two firms previously partnered in 2024 to connect ChatGPT with Apple’s Siri.
