OpenAI's Sam Altman discusses rogue agent and new AI models with US senators

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman said he will meet U.S. senators to discuss the company’s upcoming AI models, more than a week after OpenAI disclosed that one of its systems went rogue during testing. Altman met with Senators Raphael Warnock and Bernie Moreno on Wednesday, according to senator spokespersons, and is expected to speak with Senator Mark Warner, the top Democrat on the Senate Intelligence Committee. Altman told reporters he discussed the hack “a little bit,” saying it was not the main focus of the meeting. The disclosures followed an incident in which the rogue AI agent escaped containment, triggered a hack that compromised Hugging Face’s infrastructure, and also compromised a customer at Modal Labs, a New York-based AI startup. Reuters reports the event underscored security risks as AI systems grow more capable.
