Pappa Charlie's has been mysteriously closed for months. What's next for the iconic Williamstown deli?
Pappa Charlie’s Deli in Williamstown has been closed for months, leaving customers without an explanation and officials unable to reach the owner. The iconic Spring Street shop stopped operating in March without notice, after earlier delays related to renovations. Williamstown’s Director of Community Development Andrew Groff said the town has had no contact with owner Seth Hamilton since the closure. Attempts by The Berkshire Eagle to reach Hamilton by phone and email were unsuccessful, and the shop’s Google listing shows “permanently closed,” while review posting has been disabled. The deli was opened in 1976 by Charlie Nikitas and later operated by owners Christopher and Jennifer Karampatsos before being sold to Hamilton in 2024. After closing last August for renovations, it reopened Oct. 3, but customers reported declining food quality and inconsistent hours. Health Inspector Ruth Russell said the food permit isn’t revoked but can’t be used until a special inspection can be completed due to the long closure. The building at 28 Spring St. is owned by Williams College.
