Peru Insurer Data Breach Draws Scrutiny
Peru’s financial regulator is reviewing an alleged data theft and exposure affecting Interseguro, a Lima-based insurer. On 15 October, the regulator said Interseguro formally reported the incident. The company has not disclosed how many customers were affected, a key point for both Peruvian policyholders and U.S. investors, since Interseguro is part of Intercorp Financial Services, whose shares trade in New York under ticker IFS. Interseguro said unauthorized access began on 7 October, was stopped, and is under investigation. It claims exposed records mainly include identification and contact data and policy numbers, and that nothing would enable transactions. Reports on 13 October from the group “Direwolf” claimed roughly 2.5 terabytes were taken, but Interseguro declined to comment on dark-web postings.
