Poacher killed a doe and left her body to rot in a Maine apple orchard

A poacher shot a doe sometime between 11 and 11:30 p.m. Sunday in Mercer, Maine, then left the carcass in an apple orchard off West Sandy River Road, the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife said. The deer was discovered Wednesday. Officials say the location is east of Farmington. Maine Operation Game Thief is offering a $2,000 reward for information leading to the arrest or conviction of those responsible.
