Punjab to integrate artificial intelligence into primary education
Punjab is moving to integrate artificial intelligence into primary education, with the Punjab Curriculum and Textbook Board (PCTB) approving AI instruction for students up to grade five. The plan calls for AI laboratories at all primary schools across Punjab, supported by a regular curriculum already developed for the subject. Because specialized infrastructure and trained personnel are currently lacking in government schools, officials say qualified educationists will be recruited on contract to teach AI. The rollout will occur in two phases: first, AI as a standalone subject, and second, expanded lab infrastructure via modern science and AI facilities for hands-on learning. If budget constraints emerge, basic AI lessons may be inserted into existing science textbooks. Final publication approval is expected at the next PCTB meeting, with full rollout set for the 2027 academic year.
