Red Sox have 2 reasons not to trade for Mets' Francisco Lindor

As the Boston Red Sox weigh moves ahead of the trade deadline, one target appears increasingly unlikely: Francisco Lindor of the New York Mets. The Athletic’s Jim Bowden reported Tuesday that Boston is not engaged in acquiring Lindor; instead, the club has pursued shortstop options CJ Abrams, Zach Neto and Jeremy Peña. With Trevor Story and Marcelo Mayer on the injured list, Boston’s middle-infield depth is thin, making a shortstop upgrade this year more urgent. Bowden cited two reasons to avoid Lindor: the “contract and age” concerns. Lindor will turn 33 in November and still has five years left on a 10-year, $341 million deal, with potential health-related decline by 2031.
