Sanctions nine people over alleged Russian cyber-spying campaign - British Caribbean News, as the European Union imposed sanctions on Russian military officers, hackers, and private companies tied to what it calls a years-long cyber-espionage campaign against the bloc. The European Council said in a statement on Monday that the targeted parties “contribute to Russia’s efforts” to destabilize the EU, member states, and international partners. The names and entities were not listed in the statement, but it said attacks occurred in at least nine countries, including France, Germany, Poland, Cyprus, the Netherlands, Austria, Slovakia, Romania, and Finland. Germany’s Federal Foreign Office reportedly summoned the Russian ambassador over “unacceptable” cyberattacks. The sanctions come as Western allies prepare meetings in Paris to secure additional air-defense commitments for Ukraine amid heightened Russian drone and missile strikes, and as Ukraine’s leaders coordinate security guarantees through the “Coalition of the Willing.”
