Education experts say schools need to adapt to artificial intelligence while keeping learning “human” at the centre. Malaysia English Language Teaching Association (Melta) president Prof Dr Sivabala Naidu urged educators to change teaching and assessment methods as AI disrupts how students access and process information. Speaking after the opening of the 34th Melta International Conference in Ipoh on Sept 12, he likened AI’s arrival to the early calculator ban, now accepted in exams where scientific calculators are required. He said teachers should emphasize problem-, project- and task-based learning, and assess students through projects that apply knowledge. Concerns such as plagiarism and overreliance must be addressed.
