Taiwan chipmaker TSMC reports record quarterly profit
Taiwan’s TSMC reported a record quarterly net profit on Thursday, driven by strong demand for artificial intelligence hardware. The company, the largest contract maker of microchips used across devices from Apple phones to Nvidia processors, has benefited from the global AI race as governments and tech firms fund data centers to train and run tools such as chatbots, image generators and agents. TSMC said the “AI megatrend” continues to raise the need for more computation. Net profit for April to June jumped 77.4% year-on-year to NT$706.6 billion (US$22 billion), beating analyst estimates of NT$624.4 billion and topping its prior quarterly record of NT$572.48 billion. Revenue increased 36% to NT$1.3 trillion. Analysts cited continued strength in AI infrastructure investment but warned EUV supply constraints and overseas fab buildouts could limit capacity and weigh on margins.
