Tested ChatGPT's Live Voice upgrade, and it almost felt human - how to try it
ChatGPT’s Live Voice upgrade centers on a new GPT-Live model designed to make voice conversations feel more continuous and natural. OpenAI rolled out the feature on Wednesday to the ChatGPT website, Windows app, and iOS/Android apps, using a full-duplex architecture that lets the AI speak and listen at the same time. The model can also handle conversational turn-taking more smoothly, including staying silent to let users think or responding with short acknowledgments like “Yeah” or “Mhmm.” It supports interactions such as requesting research while the system performs online search in the background. All ChatGPT users can access Live Voice, with GPT-Live-1 for paid subscribers and GPT-Live-1 mini for free users. Mac users must use the website, with selection available in Settings under Voice.
