The simple reason hardware accelerated GPU scheduling isn't the best fit for cheap GPUs
xCruzo Brief
Hardware-accelerated GPU scheduling (HAGS) can be a poor match for budget graphics cards, largely because it consumes a portion of VRAM that 6GB and 8GB GPUs often can’t spare. The Windows 11 toggle is enabled by default on most PCs, and it’s required for DLSS Frame Generation. But when XDA Developers disabled HAGS on an 8GB RTX 2070 Super, they reportedly freed nearly 950MB of graphics memory, improving stuttering issues in games like Cyberpunk 2077 and Stellar Blade, at the cost of a small frame-rate impact. Microsoft introduced HAGS in a May 2020 Windows 10 update, shifting scheduling work toward the GPU while Windows prioritizes apps.
