Trump says he will appoint a new AI adviser, without providing details

U.S. President Donald Trump said on Saturday that he plans to appoint a new artificial intelligence adviser, an “AI czar,” and create an “AI force,” but offered no specifics on either initiative or how they would be carried out. The comments came as lawmakers in Washington grow concerned about risks from AI to people and property. Trump has repeatedly downplayed AI dangers and argued that additional regulation is unnecessary, writing on Truth Social that his administration will not “hinder or stifle” AI’s growth and will instead monitor misconduct through the existing criminal and civil justice systems. If implemented, it would be his second AI czar role; venture capitalist David Sacks previously held the position. Trump’s post also precedes his scheduled meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping on Thursday, with both countries competing for AI leadership.
