Vercel CEO impressed by Z.AI's GLM-5.2 coding capabilities
Vercel’s CEO said he was impressed by Z.AI’s GLM-5.2, an open-weight coding model that reached production integration within three days of release. Guillermo Rauch, CEO of Vercel and creator of Next.js, described the model as “genuinely impressed” and “almost shocked” by its coding performance. GLM-5.2 launched on June 13, 2026, and by June 16 Vercel had already integrated it into its AI Gateway. On FrontierSWE, GLM-5.2 trailed Claude Opus 4.8 by just 1%, scoring 81.0 on Terminal-Bench 2.1 versus 63.5 for its predecessor GLM-5.1, about a 28% improvement. Internal app-development results also rose from 21 to 48 out of 70. The model supports 1 million tokens, up from 200K, and is available via Hugging Face and local GGUF formats so developers can run it on their own hardware without API subscriptions. The article frames the rapid integration as evidence of expected real-world usage.
