Village launches legal challenge over its £111,000 contribution to run tip
Bride Parish Commissioners has launched a legal challenge in the High Court over its £111,000 contribution to run the Northern Civic Amenity site, known as the Balladoole tip. The group filed a petition against the Department of Infrastructure, arguing the Northern Civic Amenity Joint Board was created without proper consultation and that Bride ratepayers’ rights under the European Convention on Human Rights were breached because they must pay a disproportionate share. Deemster Andrew Corlett approved a one-month stay to allow discussions. The board was ordered by Infrastructure Minister Tim Crookall on June 22, effective July 24, after warnings that the tip would close. Operating costs have risen to £725,000 for 2025-26 from under £500,000 previously.
