Why many believe Mike Norvell's future hinges on FSU's next move
Florida State’s fan base is increasingly split as pressure mounts on coach Mike Norvell, following a chain of events that insiders view as setting up a possible change. The firing of athletic director Michael Alford on Monday, Sept. 14, was widely seen as the first domino toward moving on from Norvell. A viral photo of a box truck parked outside Norvell’s home sparked speculation, though Norvell said it was delivering items for his daughter. Reports also surfaced that FSU is exploring bringing back former coach Jimbo Fisher, who led the program from 2010 to 2017. Some supporters believe a lopsided loss to Alabama on Saturday, Sept. 19, could accelerate a coaching decision. FSU (1-1) enters as nearly a three-touchdown underdog versus Alabama (2-0). Since the start of 2024, the Seminoles are 6-18 against FBS opponents and 2-17 versus Power 4 teams.
