Year-Old Was Swimming with Friends When He Disappeared in 'Cursed' Lake. His Body Was Found Hours Later

A 21-year-old man, Terrell Shelton of Pendergrass, died after disappearing while swimming with friends at Lake Lanier, Georgia, on June 13 around 2:40 p.m. The Hall County Sheriff's Office said the body was found in about 14 feet of water near Robinson Park at 11:30 p.m., recovered with a remote-operated vehicle. His sister, Calista Shelton, organized a GoFundMe in his memory and described the family as devastated. Lake Lanier, with more than 690 miles of shoreline and 76 recreational areas, has seen seven drownings this year, according to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and other sources. The investigation continues.
