York University's Connected Minds and CIGI partner to strengthen global AI and neurotechnology governance

York University and the Centre for International Governance Innovation (CIGI) are launching a 16-month pilot partnership aimed at developing new governance frameworks for artificial intelligence and neurotechnology. Based in Toronto, the initiative will combine York’s Connected Minds interdisciplinary research program with CIGI’s policy expertise to build a coordinated, multi-level engagement model linking United Nations standard-setting, Canadian legislative processes, and applied regulatory guidance. Connected Minds’ scientific director Shayna Rosenbaum said the partnership bridges researchers and policy experts to support human rights and public trust. CIGI’s Aaron Shull said Canada can help lead globally on safeguards, and the project includes phased outputs such as a replicable framework and communications tools for policymakers and industry.
