Young cybercriminals behind Transport for London hack chaos face jail
Transport for London hack chaos is headed toward sentencing as prosecutors move to jail two young cybercriminals tied to the attack. Thalha Jubair, 20, and Owen Flowers, 18, are accused of breaching TfL’s online network, causing a reported £39 million loss. The disruption also forced about 28,000 employees to attend offices to reset passwords, according to the UK National Crime Agency. Prosecutors say the pair accessed data from TfL’s Oyster refund system, delayed refunds for some customers, and closed applications for Oyster photocards for children and young people. Both are set to be sentenced at Woolwich Crown Court at a hearing beginning on Wednesday, overseen by Mr Justice Turner, listed for two days. The attackers were linked by the NCA to Scattered Spider, cited in other incidents affecting Jaguar Land Rover and retailers including Marks and Spencer.
