Her tennis path has been closely tied to her parents’ backing and business moves. Pegula’s family relocated from Buffalo, New York, to Pennsylvania and then South Carolina so she could pursue a professional career. Her father, Terry Pegula, founded East Resources Inc. in 1983 and sold majority interests to Royal Dutch Shell for $4.7 billion in 2010, then the remainder for $1.75 billion in 2014.
