Are you registered to vote for the 2026 midterms in California? Here's how to check
California residents who want to vote in the 2026 midterms but aren’t sure they’re registered can check their status online through the Secretary of State’s website or by calling their county elections office. The registration deadline in California is 15 days before an election. For the 2026 midterms, that deadline was Oct. 19, but voters can still “conditionally” register after the deadline during the days leading up to and on Election Day. Eligible voters can register online, by mail, or in person before the deadline. Online registration is available at registertovote.ca.gov. For mail registration, applicants can obtain forms at locations including libraries and the DMV and must submit the completed application 15 days before the election or be able to register on Election Day with acceptable photo identification. Typically, registration is only needed once, but re-registration is required for name changes, party preference changes, or a change of California address.
