Belton City Council votes Tuesday on $250M tax incentive plan for major uptown entertainment district
Belton, Missouri, is set to vote Tuesday night on $250 million in tax incentives that would help convert about 40 acres of farmland into a major, multi-use entertainment and residential district. The plan, along 163rd Street to 58 Highway, includes a B&B movie theater, go-cart track, bowling alley, five sit-down restaurants (6,000 square feet each), 7,500 square feet of retail, and more than 600 apartments. The entertainment complex would total 110,000 square feet. Developer PETRA, represented by Tyler Burks, estimates the project would create $16 million in new wages, support 500 jobs, attract 1,200 residents, and generate millions in taxes. The proposal faces a $53 million financing gap; a Chapter 100 Industrial Bond over 20 years is expected to leverage $250 million in private investment. The council would also vote again in two weeks for the incentives to take effect.
