xCruzo Brief
Brazil’s trade surplus surged to $7.74 billion in September 2026, up 146.4% year on year, the trade ministry said October 6. Exports rose 12.9% while imports fell 2.4%, widening the gap as sales grew and purchases cooled. The September surplus followed an extractive-led export jump: extractive exports climbed 39.8% to $9.44 billion, driven by crude oil (+77.3%) and copper ore (+74.2%). Farm exports rose to $7.00 billion, with soy up 11.9%. Manufactured goods increased 5.3% to $17.67 billion. However, iron ore (-20.5%), frozen/fresh beef (-30.6%) and passenger cars (-34.3%) fell. The ministry also cut its 2026 surplus forecast to $84.4 billion.
