Bruno Fernandes: Man United star flatters to deceive again
Manchester United’s Bruno Fernandes was in action during Portugal’s run at the 2026 World Cup in North America as the team reached the last 16 with a 2-1 win over Croatia. Fernandes started, while Diogo Dalot remained on the bench for the match. Despite his season form for United, including a Premier League record of 21 assists, Fernandes produced limited impact in this tournament, adding only one assist—during Portugal’s 5-0 victory over Uzbekistan. He was substituted in the 63rd minute while Portugal trailed by one goal, after which Cristiano Ronaldo scored a penalty and Goncalo Ramos secured a 94th-minute winner. Fernandes recorded no key passes, had three cross attempts without a connection, and won 50% of his duels. Portugal next face Spain in the last 16 on Monday, 6 July.
