xCruzo Brief
A German climber, Wolfgang Waschiczek, died after falling nearly 1,500 meters (about 5,000 feet) on Ama Dablam in Nepal, according to a trekking company operator. The 57-year-old was reported missing from Camp 3, at roughly 6,200 meters, one day after reaching the summit of the 6,812-meter peak on Sunday. Waschiczek had been resting after the summit and planned to descend. His guide left him in a tent briefly to retrieve borrowed equipment; when the guide returned, he was gone. His body was spotted at Camp 2 at around 8 a.m. Monday, at an altitude near 4,600 meters. A helicopter retrieved the body and transported it to Lukla, then to Kathmandu for a postmortem at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital.
