Coeur d'Alene Summer Theatre's 'Come from Away' recalls 'light, joy, hope' after Sept. 11 attacks
Coeur d'Alene Summer Theatre’s production of “Come from Away” revisits the days after the Sept. 11 attacks with an emphasis on “light, joy, hope,” turning a hard-to-rhyme historical episode into a staged musical. The show is inspired by real events in Gander, Newfoundland, where about 7,000 passengers from 38 planes were ordered to land at Gander International Airport after the attacks under Operation Yellow Ribbon. The production, starring Amy D’Orazi, Neil Devlin, Chelsea DuVall and others, is directed and choreographed by Antoinette DiPietropolo, with music directed by David Brewster for a nine-piece band. It runs at the Schuler Performing Arts Center at North Idaho College from Friday through July 26, with an ASL-interpreted performance on July 19. The musical’s creators, Irene Sankoff and David Hein, visited Gander for research for a filmed Apple TV release timed before the 20th anniversary.
