Concerns over outliving assets grow among non-retirees

More non-retirees are worried they won’t have enough money to last through retirement, according to Schroders’ 2026 U.S. Retirement Survey. The firm found 52% of Americans not yet retired are concerned they could outlive their assets, even though 45% plan to claim Social Security before age 67. Only 10% expect to wait until 70, when monthly benefits reach a maximum. Non-retirees estimate they need $5,094 per month to retire comfortably. Most savings plans center on cash (55%) and workplace 401(k), 403(b) or 457 plans (48%). Among retirees, 64% wish they had planned more.
