Cracks appearing on the facade of a Dublin city building led officials to cordon it off on Parliament Street this week. Dublin Fire Brigade and the Dangerous Buildings Section of Dublin City Council visited the site on the evening of the event, after the area was initially taped off. Mobile barriers were later installed to keep a passage for pedestrians and cyclists along the eastern side of the street. Nearby businesses continued operating, with DiFontaines Pizza trading as usual, while Ciao Bella Roma has remained closed since the first Covid lockdown in March 2020. More recently, part of the upstairs floors had been rented out as accommodation. Fine Gael councillor Danny Byrne said the situation concerned him, but the council told him the building had been deemed safe, and that scaffolding would be erected over the weekend.
