Sheffield United player Maddy Cusack's death 'definitely preventable' - inquest
The death of Sheffield United player Maddy Cusack was described as “definitely preventable” during an inquest, according to testimony from a former teammate. Chesterfield Coroner’s Court heard that the 27-year-old was found unresponsive at a residence in Horsley, Derbyshire, on September 20, 2023. Nina Wilson, who played with Cusack, told the July 3 inquest that Jonathan Morgan’s management style left players “ostracised and isolated,” and she referenced a “Morgan cult” at his previous club Leicester. Wilson said concerns were dismissed, adding that when she tried to escalate issues she was told Morgan could do what he wanted. The court was also told that an investigation into a 2023 complaint found no evidence of wrongdoing. Recommendations discussed included compulsory psychologists at WSL2 clubs and changes to whistleblowing processes.
