A one-vehicle crash in Boyne City on Tuesday, July 28, damaged power lines and caused outages in the surrounding area, according to police. Assistant Chief of Police Dan Mercer said emergency crews responded at about 9:51 p.m. to reports at the intersection of Front Street and West Main Street. Officers found a black Chevrolet Silverado that lost control, struck a utility pole, hit the guy wire of a second utility pole, then drove up the wire and stopped with the pickup’s front suspended about 10 feet in the air. Consumers Energy arrived, and once it was safe, the 40-year-old driver was removed. He was taken to McLaren Northern Michigan hospital in Petoskey. Officials said alcohol, THC and speed may have contributed; the crash remains under investigation.
