DepEd bares initial plans for Tacloban school's return to classes after fatal shooting
DepEd bares initial plans for Tacloban school's return to classes after fatal shooting covers how the Department of Education in Tacloban City is preparing San Jose National High School to resume learning following a deadly attack this week. DepEd official Nilo Eder said psychosocial experts will guide whether students are ready, with modular distance learning planned to start July 1 after the city’s local fiesta. In-person classes are being considered for July 6, while counselors will be available on the first day. Changes to classrooms—such as repainting to help students avoid recalling the incident—are also planned. The shooting on Monday, June 22, killed three students and injured 20 others; two minors, aged 14 and 15, were involved. Authorities are adding perimeter fencing, security equipment, CCTV, panic buttons, bag inspections, and directing funds toward metal detectors.
