Remotely launched drones designed to stop active shooters are being deployed across more U.S. school districts as part of a rapidly growing, multi-billion-dollar school security industry. The drones can breach windows, provide real-time video feedback to law enforcement, and use an embedded speakerphone to communicate with teachers and police while aiming to disorient and incapacitate a potential shooter in about a minute. Campus Guardian Angel’s CEO Justin Marston estimates $3 to $4 billion is spent annually on tools like drones, school resource officers, and metal detectors. Deployments include counties in Florida, five schools in Georgia, and a first deployment in Colorado this month, with interest in Texas.
