Federal judge dismisses Trump administration's Harvard admissions probe case
A federal judge in Boston dismissed a lawsuit brought by the Trump administration seeking to compel Harvard University to turn over records for a probe into whether the Ivy League school continues to consider race in admissions. U.S. District Judge Myong Joun rejected the U.S. Department of Justice’s case, Harvard argued it was part of a broader push by the administration against the university. The Justice Department had filed in February, citing the need for applicant-level admissions data after the U.S. Supreme Court’s 2023 ruling against race-conscious admissions programs. Harvard said the suit was retaliatory and sought sensitive student information without required steps. Title VI was cited by the DOJ as the basis for the investigation.
