Free events planned for L.A. Central Library's 100th birthday
Free events planned for L.A. Central Library's 100th birthday will mark the milestone for one of Los Angeles’ most recognizable landmarks. The library will celebrate its centennial this Saturday with a full day of free programs, performances, exhibits, hands-on activities, and special guests. Scheduled activities include a puppet show, story time, and a display of the world’s largest pop-up book, along with instructions for visitors to make their own pop-up book. There will also be a Special Collection Tour to view rare and archival materials. The event runs from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and visitors can park at the Westlawn Garage at 534 S. Flower St., though officials recommend taking Metro. Dedicated in July 1926, the Central Library’s Art Deco design and tiled pyramid roof made it a downtown icon.
